From a Reader: I was at this concert. Great show. This show was a benefit to raise money to benefit Jackie Wilson. It was so hot in there. I started out about midway back when Mikey Dread played and people kept passing out so by the time the Clash came on, I was right up front. Could barely move.
At the end of the show, Topper Headon threw his sticks into the crowd and one hit me in the face. I grabbed it and some woman next to me bit my arm. I elbowed her in the face from the pain and shoved the stick down my shirt. People were scrambling all over the place to find it. I hopped up on stage and crawled away (the place was jam-packed). I still have the drumstick. It's says "Toppers Boppers" on it.

Of course I'm dating myself horribly here, but what a night that was! They were absolutely white hot and storming the gates, somehow managing to combine the power, excitement, and momentum of The Who with the gristle, flaming grey matter, and manic economy of a thousand American garage bands from the 60’s. Anything less would have been unacceptable, unforgivable, and inconceivable.

Also at this unforgetable show. While waiting in line to get in the lads let us in for sound check. So grateful to this day.
I remember the soundcheck too. They did Julie's Been Working for the Drug Squad for the early arriving (but I don't think they ended up doing it during the show). Followed by Mikey Dread and Jackie Wilson contemporary, Lee Dorsey. The Clash were incredible that night from the start which was an empty stage while Jackie's Higher and Higher played- Clash come out and go into Clash City Rockers. Nirvana (so to speak)
