A CRAFTSMAN'S LEGACY DETROIT PBS SERIES BEGINS OCT 4

Yesterday I saw a post on my friend Jim Harper's Facebook page about a new PBS TV series beginning this Fall nationally. The show is called "A Craftsman's Legacy".  Jim has a custom made motorcycle crafted by Eric Gorges and it is incredible....We love Eric's work and now we get to travel with him across the US looking at the best craftspeople!

Each 30-minute episode will follow Eric Gorges on a quest to discover true craftsmen in today’s world. Traveling across America, Eric will be interviewing men and women that understand the importance of craftsmanship. Every episode will explain the history of an old-world craft and the importance in the building of America.

Did a bit of phone chat with the man himself Eric yesterday...We have a lot of art taste in common....Eric told me a bit about meeting some of the craftsmen and women his has profiled on his show. Eric says their skills are fantastic and now we can't wait until October to see the 13 Episodes....  Watch a clip of the new show below!

MESSAGE FROM DONNY HARTMAN OF THE FROST

Since Dick Wagner's passing I've been reminiscing a little about the great days THE FROST had during the hey days in Detroit from 1967 through 1971. The Frost was one of the premiere bands at that time and could fill The Grande, Cobo Hall, and Olympia Stadium on their own in those days and we sold over 50,000 copy's of the Rock & Roll Music album in only a few days.

Unfortunately it became a crutch to us as most of the big bands were traveling a lot more than we were and gaining a larger fan base. Due to that fact, and poor choices with record companies and management, we eventually fell into a void and new we had to make the tough choices a band at it's end has to make.

I will always be proud of what The Frost accomplished. Through that band Bobby Rigg and I have had a long career of playing in this great State of Michigan. Met more stars and future stars including musicians and singers from Detroit and around the world than most people could ever dream possible.

Thanks to all of you from the north to the south for letting us do what we do. Donny Hartman.

STEVE HUNTER'S NEW TONE POEMS DVD/CD!

World-Renowned Guitar Player Steve Hunter Releases Live CD & DVD 'Tone Poems Live'

“Steve is a wonderful musician with great chops and a big heart.” - Peter Gabriel

Los Angeles, CA - For the first time ever, Blues Rock Guitarist Steve Hunter, renowned for his work with Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed and Alice Cooper, is captured on film playing a career-spanning anthology in an intimate setting with some of the worlds finest players.

Also featuring Tony Levin, Phil Aaberg and Alvino Bennett!

The DVD, titled 'Tone Poems Live', was filmed on August 24th 2013 at a recording studio in LA. Alongside Steve was Tony Levin on Bass (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson) Phil Aaberg on Keyboards (Elvin Bishop, Peter Gabriel) Alvino Bennett on Drums (Dave Mason, Robin Trower).

They rehearsed for two days and filmed on the third day as though it were in front of an audience. Fourteen tunes, each played twice, with no overdubs added later. The material was chosen from most of Steve’s solo albums plus a few covers, including ‘Solsbury Hill’ ‘What’s Going On’ and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s ‘Riviera Paradise’.

“The soulful notes that Steve Hunter plays have the perfect balance of fat warm tone, taste and personality” - Steve Vai

This is the first time Steve Hunter has ever been filmed doing his own material plus material of his own choice. Steve is now legally blind and all though not out of the question, touring has become more of a challenge. The recording session was produced and recorded by Brian Brinkerhoff and Paul Lani.

Tony Levin: “Steve is one of those wonderful musicians who speaks from the heart”

Phil Aaberg: “There’s something about the subtlety, the texture and the tone quality that he gets with an individual note, to me that’s a great guitar player”

Alvino Bennett: “I’m hearing all three Kings; Albert, BB and Freddy”

Jason Becker: “I can't put into words how much your soul comes out of your fingers. Everyone should see and hear this DVD”!

DESTROY ALL MONSTERS ROB KING!!

Rob King photo Dan Sultana

Back in the day....Destroy All Monsters Drummer Rob King's father Richard opened King's Keyboard House in Ann Arbor. Rob started working at the store, cleaning. He started taking piano lessons at age 5 from a private teacher, and by age 12 had discovered the drums. "I liked the way they sounded."

In 1977, Rob joined the band Destroy All Monsters (DAM). Included in the line up was former MC5 bassist Mike Davis, former Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton, and Performer/Artist Niagara Detroit.

They toured England in the late 1970s, played often in New York City, and cut records that were mildly successful. His favorite venue was the Lyceum in England , where DAM boasted an audience of about 4,000 people. He also loved playing at the CBGB in New York, though he prefers the term "new wave" over "punk." DAM played shows with bands such as the Ramones, and other drummers love the way Rob plays...

Rob is working in the Metro Detroit area and he would like to be busy teaching drumming, doing session work and tuning pianos too....He is an absolute genius....by all means we recommend him on all levels! CALL ROB KING 734 478 5568

Here is Rob drumming with Ron Cooke's Dead City Prophets
