Yosemight based in Cleveland, Ohio formed in 2012. Mixing elements of funk, rock, bluegrass, reggae, and Latin. The lineup: Luke Bergan (Guitar and Vocals) Nick Shaver (Bass and Vocals) Tony Kazel (Drums). They often include a killer horn section and kick ass keyboards too.

Had the pleasure of listening to a band that was a bit of a surprise to me. they hail from Cleveland, Ohio, and they were refreshing to hear. Great musicians who take the gig seriously and really know how to play. Yosemight, a funk jam band, more in the progressive vein, had just finished playing a regional tour when I first met them.

The audience fell madly in love with them, and after seeing them, I heard why.

Yosemight is a 3 piece band with horns/keyboards, these men meant serious business when it came to their sound, and I mean serious. Every aspect of their presentation was aimed for providing the best sound possible.

A seriously energized  show, that got the crowd dancing.. boy can these guys play.

They are remarkably down to earth when off stage, connecting with fans... no easy feat after they just finished electrifying the audience.

Yosemight is a band I highly recommend checking out. They have an EP out,  and is a group I foresee having a bright future. Glad my friend suggested listening to this band, and Detroit, you will love these guys.

In the mean time, I'm going to keep making love to my eardrums. Thank you, and I welcome you to the music mecca that is Detroit. Make yourselves, and your sound, at home here. Deondre Charelle

FLINT MUSIC PROMOTER DAVE WEST HAS DIED

 Dave West (RIP)

Sad news just in....Flint Sherwood Forest music promoter Dave West died at 6:29pm last night.

Dave West played a prominent role in supporting and promoting Flint area musicians during the early days of Michigan Rock & Roll and was particularly involved in our Sherwood Forest concerts.

Dave is best known as the inventor and developer of West Amplifiers, building and maintaining equipment for Grand Funk Railroad, which they used exclusively for many years, and supplying heavy duty sound systems for almost all of the major Michigan bands, including Bob Seger, Dick Wagner, Alice Cooper and the like, as well as dozens of local bands just getting it together. Your perception is your confinement: What you perceive is what holds you, makes you molds you. Is what you perceive possible beyond the mirror? Does this perception become a reflection that you cannot shake? Do your doubts speak to yourcore, manifesting at every second to each fiber?

This is your perception after all, and that very perception becomes what you see as truth for that very mirror is the magicthat makes it real in your life, forever in your inner being. Be careful of your perceptions, they just may become truth…Hello, My name is Deondre Charelle, guitarist of Zeal. I am also the new Media Editor for Detroit Rock N Roll magazine.

This job included reviewing new projects, new ideas in Detroit, the new hotspots in our music scene, as well as various other projects that will be affiliated with the DRNRM.

Been in the Detroit music business for quite awhile. Have  collaborated with Parliament Funkadelic before working on my project Zeal. I love the music culture, the culture of the art world. Researching the latest in the music scene in our areas and others, I enjoy down to earth conversations with the fans, the band, and the scene.

As a musician, I have 26 years of experience in theory, composition, and performance. As a human being, I enjoy writing short stories, discussing philosophy, drawing, history, and long conversations with people about good food. Surprise me, we may feature you on Detroit Rock N Roll, and we can advertise your business or merchandise on our page. Just email us, and we will be happy to accommodate you and your events.

68,400 SQUARE FEET AND ALL ROCK N ROLL

Peter Cavanaugh:

My old friend Ron Bearup has some farmland in upstate Michigan and just went wild – creating the largest tractor-mowed book title in the history of literacy. This “Local DJ” covers 68,400 square feet with letters 80 feet wide and 60 across with 20 feet of spacing in between. It lies directly in the flight path to Harbor Springs Municipal Airport on Lake Michigan. When asked why he did such a thing, Ron said, “I liked the book!”

MOTOR CITY BAD BOY RIKKI ST JAMES OBITUARY 10-18-2015

Rikki in Detroit 2013 photo: (retrokimmer.com)

Rikki St James
February 20, 1954 - October 18, 2015
Son of Mary Santiago. Father of Ricardo A. Santiago and Brittany L. St. James. Brother of Andre Santiago, Lisa Bryson and Maria Santiago-Powell

Detroit Guitarist/Bass Player Rikki St James died today after suffering a brain aneurysm. Rikki was receiving chemotherapy for cancer as well..he was in good spirits until the end..we received several phone calls and lots of texts from him while he was at U of M hospital and Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. The funeral service will be a private family affair.

Rikki loved his family especially his two children Brittany and Ricky. Our prayers are with them at this time....

Rikki St James was an old school Detroiter. He grew up not far from Tiger Stadium and his father owned the Security Seal business on Michigan Ave. Rikki worked along side his dad as young boy and worked in the building trades for over 30 years.

In recent years Rikki has resided in Wyandotte, Michigan. He loved that small artist community. He enjoyed living there immensely.

Rikki was a very good chef..cooked authentic Puerto Rican dishes and loved to make Spaghetti Marinara from scratch on Sundays..He loved to eat the best foods. Rikki loved his many sports cars and his Softail Harley. Rode often with his pals in the Highwaymen.

Rikki was full of life, love, and laughter....

But his true love in life was making music and meeting talented people. He loved to encourage everyone to follow their dreams and live their best life. He truly enjoyed living his life to the hilt. One of his favorite quotes was from Hunter S. Thompson..

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”

His career in music began when Rikki was hired to play Bass guitar in the second version of the band the Motor City Bad Boys. This was the greatest time in Rikki's life.

He talked often about the MCBB crowds that packed CBGB's, Max's Kansas City,  and the Great Gildersleeve back in NYC. He loved NYC and the glamour and nightlife.

Mick Stevens, Rikki St James, Sirius Trixon, Glenn Dean and Jim Jam

The Motor City Bad Boys, one of the most fascinating rock bands to ever come out of the Detroit music scene. MCBB played Second Chance, Bookies, Max's Kansas City, CBGBs and Great Gildersleeves many times during the 70's.

RIP LOVE...xoK
